Shade Sail can be mounted virtually anywhere that shade is desired. The “sail” is made from high quality, 180 grams/sq. meter weight, waterproof woven polyester fabric, treated to block 90% of sun UV radiation. An ideal and economical solution for instant backyard shade ~ especially for children and others with sensitive skin ~ mounted to sturdy trees, posts, and buildings.
Important Notes:
Rain:
Because water cannot pass through woven polyester fabric, this Shade Sail must be installed at an angle (or angles), with adequate taut tension, sufficient to allow water to run off. If water is allowed to pool on top of the Shade Sail, it's waterproof quality and UV protective coating are likely to fail, and because of the weight of water (1 gallon = 8.35lbs./3.79kg), pooling water may cause a complete failure of the Shade Sail (ripping the fabric, causing the corner metal "D" rings to fail, etc.). The installation angle should be increased proportionally to typical rate of rainfall in your area (i.e., where typical hourly rainfall can be high ~ such as along the gulf coast, and the Atlantic coast from Florida to Virginia ~ a greater angle of installation is required, sufficient to prevent water from accumulating on the Sail during heavy rains).
Wind:
When high winds are expected it is recommended that woven polyester Shade Sails be taken down. Wind cannot pass through this fabric, and the stress of high winds can cause the Shade Sail to fail (ripping fabric, corner metal "D" ring failure, etc.). To avoid damage during normal windy conditions, be sure to install Shade Sail with taut tension (without slack). The use of turnbuckles to maintain tension is recommended.
