    Description

Written only 20 years after the Saxophone's invention, this 1860 masterpiece captured, for the first time, the enormous potential of the saxophone.  Perfect as a solo, or as a concert opener.  Truly, this is the saxophone's first masterpiece. Included in this purchase are sheet music for alto saxophone, piano accompaniment, and a performance CD included to demonstrate the timeless beauty of this piece performed by Mr. Ted Hegvik, who also arranged this edition.  This copy is of the latest, 3rd edition, with revised notation.
Jules Demersseman was an amazing composer and musician.
Born in 1833 and gifted with incredible talent, he attended the prestigious Paris Conservatory of music and graduated with honors in both Flute and Solfeggio - when he was only 11 years old!
This piece was inspired by the collaboration of three great men: Jules Demersseman, Adolphe Sax, and Henri Wuille, the widely celebrated leading saxophonist of his time.
Regrettably, like Mozart, Jules Demersseman died very young at the age of 33 in 1866.
